Fort Bend County is full of master-planned communities, and most of them have rules about boats, trailers, campers and commercial vehicles. Typical HOA rules limit how long a trailer or boat can sit in the driveway, ban them from the street, or require them to be out of sight. If you've gotten a friendly (or not so friendly) letter, here's how to choose storage that works.
Step 1: Measure your vehicle
Measure the total length including the tongue and motor, not just the boat or camper itself. Then pick a space with a little room to spare:
| Total length | Space |
|---|---|
| Up to about 18' | 20' x 10' open space |
| About 18'–28' | 30' x 10' open space |
| Over 28' or a fifth-wheel/Class A | Call us at (281) 507-5420 to check fit |
Step 2: Choose open, paved or enclosed
- Open parking: the most affordable option, with 24/7 access.
- Paved, gated parking spots: a paved surface, motorized gate and security cameras.
- Enclosed drive-up units: our 5x20 fits most motorcycles and jet skis on small trailers; larger units fit golf carts and ATVs.
Step 3: Prep for storage
Boats
- Drain all water and pull the drain plug
- Remove valuables and electronics
- Use a fitted, breathable cover
- Add fuel stabilizer and run the engine
RVs and campers
- Empty and clean tanks
- Remove food to avoid pests
- Cover tires to protect from UV
- Disconnect batteries or use a tender
Trailers
- Grease hubs and check tire pressure
- Use a hitch lock and wheel lock
Weekend warriors: With 24/7 access, you can hitch up before sunrise and be at Galveston Bay or Surfside early. Storing south of the city also means less traffic on the way out.
How much does it cost to keep a boat at home vs. in storage?
Keeping a boat or trailer at home can seem "free," but it can mean HOA fines, a blocked garage, extra wear from sun and weather, and a cramped driveway. Monthly parking is often less than people expect, see current prices and the move-in special on our Units & Prices page.
Check your HOA's actual rules
Every association is different. Before you sign anything, read your deed restrictions or ask your HOA manager about:
- How many hours or days a trailer or boat can stay in the driveway for loading and cleaning
- Whether storage behind a fence or in the garage is allowed
- Rules about commercial vehicles and work trailers
- Rules about parking on the street
